Are you one of the 40,000 calibration engineers who work with ETAS INCA? And does your use case require Automotive Ethernet?
Transitioning to Automotive Ethernet
Automotive Ethernet is utilized in modern vehicle network architectures for use cases that require high data bandwidth, such as autonomous driving assistance functions and infotainment. It is also becoming popular as data backbone, connecting the different communication domains of an E/E architecture as well as for external communication between electric vehicles and charging stations.
Ethernet allows efficient transmission of long messages, providing a much better “payload-to-communication overhead” ratio than traditional automotive networks. However, using Ethernet in automotive applications means more than just using a new bus with higher bandwidth. It also requires new communication methods such as Point-to-Point, Multicast and Broadcast communication, switched networks and so on.
ETAS can help with your Automotive Ethernet use cases by offering a comprehensive portfolio of hardware and media converters that enables Automotive Ethernet integration into the well-known INCA measurement and calibration platform.
ES88x
Need access to several vehicle interfaces? The ES882 and ES886 are ECU and Bus Interface Modules that connect Automotive Ethernet ECUs and several other vehicle buses into INCA measurement and calibration systems.
In addition to Automotive Ethernet, the ES88x modules supports CAN, CAN FD, LIN and ETAS ECU interfaces BR_XETK and XETK ECU.
The ES88x has three or four Automotive Ethernet ports to perform monitoring of AUTOSAR PDU and SOME/IP via internal TAP (Test Access Port) or CAP (Capturing) functionality. Ethernet capturing is also possible via the additional Gigabit Ethernet (GE) and Fast Ethernet (FE) ports, enabling a setup of up to six Ethernet channels.
Thanks to the ETAS time sync technology embedded into the ES8xx, heterogeneous measurement setups containing several bus Interfaces and other measurement modules can be synchronized with high accuracy of ~1µs (IEEE1588 supported).

ES16x
Need only Automotive Ethernet access and do not care about other vehicle buses? The ES16x modules are simple Gigabit Automotive Ethernet Media Converters, targeted for ECU measurement, calibration, diagnostics and flash programming via AE. With three connector variants (Lemo GE, Lemo FE or RJ45), the ES16x enables easy access to Automotive Ethernet devices via a “standard” Ethernet connection, with easy automatic configuration of speed (100 or 1000 Mbps) and mode (AE → ETH or ETH → AE). Similarly to the ES88x, signal propagation compensation uses PTP frames according to IEEE1588, enabling high accuracy for time synchronization and, when recording in INCA, the AE data is timestamped in sync with other measurements (from other ECUs and measurement modules) in the same recording file.

Easy integration into existing instrumentation setup
Both ES88x and ES16x are “native” to INCA and no additional software licenses are needed to unlock their functionality.
The ES16x is a cost-effective solution if you need to monitor a single AE port while the ES88x is the best solution in case you have multiple AE ports or if you need to monitor AE in TAP mode.
Integration with existing MCD instrumentation already in the vehicle or at the bench is easy and simple, as the modules are compatible with current and previous generations of ETAS hub hardware (e.g. ES600, ES592, etc.).
